Recurrent pregnancy loss in Dubai

Losing a pregnancy is painful; losing more than one is frightening, and the silence that often follows makes it worse. Dr. Shami takes repeated loss seriously from the second one, looks for causes methodically, and stays close through the next pregnancy.

Who it is for

  • Women who have had two or more miscarriages, consecutive or not
  • Couples who have lost a pregnancy after IVF more than once
  • Women with a history of later losses or stillbirth
  • Couples told “it was just bad luck” who want that checked properly

What the investigation covers

Chromosomes. A karyotype of both partners looks for a balanced rearrangement, one of the few clear causes of repeated loss. Where tissue from a loss is available, testing it tells you whether that pregnancy was chromosomally abnormal, which changes what comes next. See genetic testing.

The uterus. A 3D ultrasound or hysteroscopy to check for a septum, fibroids, polyps or adhesions, and for chronic inflammation of the lining.

Blood and hormones. Antiphospholipid antibodies and other clotting factors, thyroid function, prolactin, glucose and insulin, and vitamin D. PMOS and uncontrolled thyroid disease are both linked with loss and both are treatable.

Lifestyle and the male partner. Weight, smoking, caffeine and certain medications on both sides, and sperm DNA quality where it is relevant.

In roughly half of couples no definite cause is found. That is not the same as no hope: for most of them, the next pregnancy goes well, and Dr. Shami will tell you what that means for you specifically.

How Dr. Shami approaches it

  1. 1

Taken seriously from the second loss

She does not wait for a third before investigating. Two losses are enough to ask why.

  2. 2

    Both partners, all the causes

The workup covers genetics, the uterus, clotting, hormones and lifestyle, on both sides, rather than stopping at the first plausible finding.

  3. 3

    A supported next pregnancy

When you conceive again, early scans, treatment of anything found, and direct contact with her from the first positive test, so that you are not alone with your fear.

Questions patients ask

Is it worth testing after two miscarriages, or should we wait for three?

Dr. Shami investigates after two. The chance of finding something treatable is similar, and waiting for a third loss serves no one.

Can a cause always be found?

No. In about half of couples all tests are normal. Even then, most go on to have a successful pregnancy, and there are practical steps to support it. Dr. Shami is honest about what is known and what is not.

Does IVF with PGT-A prevent miscarriage?

It can reduce the risk of loss due to chromosomal errors by selecting a chromosomally normal embryo, which is most useful when age or previous testing points that way. It does not address other causes, so the full investigation still matters.
